Before having brand new offices in the new Maison des sports, in the town center of Puy-en-Velay (Haute-Loire), the departmental rugby committee 43 worked in a coworking space in Taulhac, just outside the city. It was not easy for President Christophe Urbain-Trouvé: “each time, it was either trips to meet the CDOS, or phone calls, or emails“. But for several months, the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee is in the office next doorand it changes the life of this volunteer organization which oversees the Altiligère rugby clubs.

An additional tool for committees

The CDOS provides administrative and logistical assistance to departmental committeesparticularly on pay slips, labor law, which we do not necessarily master when we are volunteers” explains Christophe Urbain-Trouvé, who is a salesman when he is not dealing with the oval. “It is a logistical tool” agrees her handball counterpart Aurélie Viala, who has been working in the same premises as the CDOS for some time, “indirectly, it also allows us, on the ground, to work.

Less than one in two young Altiligerians licensed in a club

The Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee organizes special initiation days and also facilitates access to colleges for committees to introduce their disciplines. And having him as an office neighbor should allow the different sports to spread to the Altiligrian villages where access to sports practice is not easy for Jean-Yves Masson, the president of the CDOS. “Instead of sending a single discipline to a territory, they could join two or three, they will reduce costs“, which could give creations of lasting clubs he hopes. The objective would be to increase the number of young people licensed in the different federations: currently, less than one in two young people has a license.

Help from the region and department

Playing collectively between disciplines could also make it possible to better manage resources: Laurent Wauquiez, the president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, takes the example of minibuses provided by the community. “The advantage of having the departmental committees in the same place is that they can say to themselves “I don’t need it this weekend so I can lend it to you“. The president of the region, whose stronghold is precisely in Le Puy, has invested 150,000 euros in these new premises to develop sports practice in Haute-Loire. The department, for its part, current owner of the premises, has reduced by 150,000 euros the sale price of the Maison des Sports to the CDOS to help it in its action. The sale must be signed on May 21.
