LA MINUTE SPORT Sports news for this Tuesday, May 7, 2024

Adil Hermach does not want to release the pressure. Doucouré is injured. And the USAM players pick up the trash.

Nimes Olympic

No relaxation. We must not hide it, even if it is not official, the maintenance of Nîmes Olympique in National is practically acquired. It would take a catastrophe to see the Crocodiles relegated to N2. The NO is only missing one point to validate the rescue. Even if Formose Mendy’s teammates lost during the last two days (reception of Sochaux and trip to Martigues), Orléans (10th, 40 pts which receives Red Star and goes to Goal FC) and Châteauroux (11th, 39 pts which goes to Nancy and receives Cholet) do better than the NO and that Villefranche Beaujolais (13th, 35 pts which goes to Épinal and receives Nancy) or Avranches (14th, 35 pts which goes to Cholet and receives Niort) achieve a without -mistake. This Tuesday morning, in training, the Nîmes worked on the pressing and they showed that they were not freewheeling. “We are going to do everything to maintain our position because even if we have taken a big step, we are potentially still in danger. We are going to play. The mind is lighter than it was two weeks ago, and it is already easier to work. If we succeed, we will have to take advantage of it with our supporters,” underlined Adil Hermach who does not want to sell the maintenance skin before having won it on the field.

Doucouré affected in the adductors. Adil Hermach has apparently found his group since the 16 players chosen to face Red Star on April 29 were brought back last Friday during the 2-1 victory against Goal FC. In both cases, the Crocodiles won. In these conditions, there are not many changes to expect for the reception of FC Sochaux this Friday at 9 p.m. But there still remains a little uncertainty, since striker Mahamadou Doucouré, who entered the match during the last two days, followed, this Tuesday morning, a separate training session which he shared with Patrick Burner ( who will not return to the field this season). Even if the center forward’s injury does not seem very serious, it is still too early to discuss his participation in the last match of the season at home in three days.

USAM Nîmes Gard

3m3 harvested. This afternoon, USAM Nîmes Gard organized the third edition of its plogging, a waste collection in downtown Nîmes. More than 300 Nîmes students from around ten schools and colleges gathered together with USAM professional players (see video above). The opportunity to collect 3m3 of waste in the streets of l’Écusson. “We are very happy to serve as a beacon for our youth, to influence and inspire. Every small daily gesture can help to have a better planet in the years to come”, comments David Tebib, the Usamist president. This year, this action is part of a larger operation called “Green team, Green planet”, which began on April 22 and will end on June 8 at Grau-du-Roi to raise awareness about saving the planet. On May 26, during the last match of the season at Parnasse against Limoges, a large sneaker collection was organized. More than 200 pairs of sports shoes are hoped to be redistributed to children in Nîmes.

Girls at the top! Last weekend the second day of the French D1 archery championship took place in Poitiers. The Nîmes team made up of Victoria Sebastian, Maia Tincu, Anaëlle Florent and Mélanie Gaubil shone by winning six of the eight matches played during this day. The girls from the Arc Club de Nîmes thus retain the lead in the provisional ranking with two lengths ahead of Riom and Compiègne. A very favorable position before tackling the 15 matches of the return phase in a few weeks, even if they will be deprived of Victoria Sebastian, retained by the French team’s program with a view to the Paris Olympic Games. On the other hand, the boys led by Jean-Charles Valladont, Franck Eyeni, Iban Bariteaud and Thomas Aubert gave up their leadership position, but remained in the race for the title. Candidate for the Olympic Games, Jean-Charles Valladont was able to maintain his position as leader of the Nîmes team with a high-level performance, but the team made too many errors in the decisive matches against direct candidates for the play-offs . Rennes ends this first leg in the lead with 13 victories, Nîmes finds itself tied for second with Clermont and Compiègne with 12 victories (the teams being provisionally decided by the goal average). This result is below the expectations of coach Olivier Grillat but Nîmes remains in the race for the play offs. The team will be deprived of its two best athletes, Baptiste Addis and Jean-Charles Valladont for the return leg phase, both of whom are retained with the Blues.
