“This is also why we need structuring transport. Because the axis we are discussing, Sainte-Foy, Parliament Hill, Saint-Roch, is an axis which is already very saturated,” shared the mayor of Quebec on Tuesday at a press briefing.

The same morning, The sun reported that the City of Lévis is preparing to abolish some of its express routes to Quebec. Citing a drop in ridership, the Société de transport de Lévis (STLévis) suggests that its users take a transfer and fall back on routes 800 and 801 of the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC) to take them to Parliament Hill.

The mayor of Quebec sees “no problem” there.

“They dump people from their bus service at our house, which I completely agree with. They will remove buses from the road and they will be able to recover them to offer better services,” he analyzes.

“The more we are able to work together, the better it is for traffic and for the user.”

— Bruno Marchand, mayor of Quebec

Bruno Marchand does not appear particularly worried that the RTC will not be able to absorb an increase in ridership. “We’re going to see it,” he says, seeing it as an additional argument in favor of a structuring mode of transport on the route that the tramway would have served.

“If it leads to traffic which means that we are not able to provide and there is discomfort or an inability to use the service, we will have to talk about it again,” he slips. .

With the resumption of ridership, routes 800 and 801 appear among the most used in the entire RTC network, reaching their maximum capacity during morning rush hours.
