Guadeloupe, St-Barthélemy and St-Martin: yellow alert triggered for heavy rain and thunderstorms

The islands of Guadeloupe, as well as the communities of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin are placed on yellow alert. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are announced by Météo France.

Guadeloupe has been placed on yellow meteorological vigilance for “heavy rain and thunderstorms” at 11:00 a.m., this Tuesday, May 7, 2024, by local authorities. The bad weather is forecast to last at least until Thursday, during the day.
Same in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy: yellow vigilance has been in place there since Monday evening. The weather should improve at the end of Wednesday afternoon on site.

A humid and unstable frontal band is circulating over the Antilles Arc, giving scattered moderate to locally heavy and stormy precipitation throughout the Guadeloupe Archipelago.
This unstable weather is expected to continue into the evening and next night, with significant accumulations possible, of the order of 50 to 70 millimeters in 3 hours. There is a risk of “good showers also Wednesday morning“, specify Météo France forecasters.

Rainfall reaching 43 millimeters has already been recorded in Port-Louis this Tuesday morning.

The night was rather calm in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. A few thunderstorms broke out nearby, but these islands were spared from the downpours.
However, the sky remains threatening and the weather unstable. Thunderstorms break out in the surrounding areas and showers occur in these areas.
Moderate to heavy showers are expected in the evening and next night, with possible significant accumulations of rain, of the order of 50 to 70 millimeters in 3 hours. There too, there is a risk of good showers on Wednesday morning.

2.2 millimeters were measured in Marigot and 16.3 millimeters in Grand-Case in 1 hour.
