More than a million ecstasy tablets, or 542 kg, were seized on 1er May in two vehicles traveling in the Drôme, the national gendarmerie announced on Tuesday.

The morning of 1er May, gendarmes intercepted two vehicles in Saint-Rambert-d’Albon and Valence and arrested their four occupants. The pills and a handgun were found during searches of these vehicles.

A value of 10 million euros

This seizure alone represents two thirds of the total ecstasy seized in 2022 in France and represents around 10 million euros, the pill selling for ten euros each, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior. It is the result of an investigation launched in October, following the suspicious use of a vehicle rented in Isère, and supervised by the Vienna public prosecutor’s office.

Four people indicted and placed in detention

After identifying “several individuals suspected of participating, to varying degrees, in the transport of narcotics”, the investigators detected in April “preparatory acts” seeming to indicate the organization of a transport of drugs from the north of the France.

The four occupants of these vehicles were indicted as part of a judicial investigation for “acquisition, possession, transport, offer or transfer of narcotics, import and export of narcotics in an organized gang” and placed in pre-trial detention, according to the gendarmes.
