“Ah, but it’s the licker! He is very disturbed, but he is not dangerous. » This is the emergency police response given to this Parisian florist after the incongruous passage of a man in her shop in April reports Le Parisien.

That day, she explains that a man “ normal looking, tall, corpulent, 50 or 60 years old » enters his flower shop in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. But he doesn’t come to buy a bouquet: he gets down on one knee, says he needs help and starts licking the ground.

With her colleague frightened and not knowing how to react to what is happening before her eyes, she discreetly dials 18. But the man leaves without fanfare just afterward, leaving them taken aback. The two colleagues called the firefighters back to cancel their trip and the latter transferred them to the emergency police.

Known about services

Still according to Le Parisien, it was by telling them about the surreal scene that the agents on the phone recognized “the licker”: a man known to these services for entering shops on the left bank of Paris and licking their floors. An official contacted by the daily specifies that his presence is often linked to his release from a psychiatric hospital center and a break in treatment. It would be seriously disturbed but would not pose a danger to others.

An emergency doctor spokesperson specifies that cases like this are becoming more and more common. The fault, according to him, is the closure of many beds in psychiatric hospitals, particularly in the capital.
