Inscriptions in black paint, including “several referring to Islam”, were discovered on more than 80 graves in a cemetery in Dordogne, after similar precedents in the department, the Périgueux public prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday.

The entrance gate to the cemetery in the village of Tourtoirac, as well as two calvaries, were also tagged. “Allah”, “cowards”, “I hate you”, “Martel will not come back”, can be read on graves according to photographs distributed by France Bleu Dordogne.

Some inscriptions also attack political figures, announcing their dates of birth and then death: Meyer Habib, described as a “Zionist”, Jordan Bardella (“racist”), Éric Zemmour (“Jew”), Marine Le Pen ( “fascho”).

“These facts were compared to previous damage by inscriptions observed in the sector since December 19,” underlines prosecutor Jacques-Edouard Andrault in a press release, adding that the gendarmerie investigation is continuing to identify the perpetrator(s) of the facts.

On March 11, around fifty graves were defaced in the Clermont-d’Excideuil cemetery, 13 km away. Other tags had been observed since December on ordeals in the surrounding villages.
