The 2024 income tax campaign will end on May 21 for paper returns and May 23 online. Taxable households in 2023, online declarations, new features… We take stock.

53.5% of non-taxable households

In 2023, the Aude department had 126,857 non-taxable households, or 53.5%. Which corresponds to the majority of households because 34.5% of them, or 81,611, are taxable. “We are in an atypical situation. When we look, the department is above the national average for non-taxable households,” specifies the departmental director of public finances (DDFiP). David Pessarossi adds that this is a statistic that sets Aude apart. This figure is similar to that of the previous campaign: 124,918 households were non-taxable in 2022. In total, the number of tax households corresponds to 237,120 in 2023.

Online declarations are expanding

Continuing what was achieved the previous year, online declarations are now in the majority. With 200,862 online or automatic requests, the finance services confirm that the dematerialized method is preferred: “It has become part of the customs. Taxpayers are clearly acclimated, by themselves, to where they are helped”, affirms David Pessarossi . And added: “I remind you that there are frequently asked questions online, but also a declaration process which allows you to be guided so as not to forget something”. 31,953 households make their declarations in paper format in the Aude department. And the number of households eligible for automatic declaration stands at 129,037, a figure close to that of last year which was a bit lower: 127,726. As a reminder, automatic declaration was launched in 2020 and allows to validate the income tax return.

60 agents in the contact center

The Carcassonne contact center, created in 2016, has 60 agents who respond to user requests regarding personal taxation. This concerns general or personalized information, but also identifications. Or change of address and RIB, management of monthly direct debit contracts and also management of withholding tax. “The contact center is accessible from a single, non-premium national number: 0 804 401 401 during time slots from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Agents can respond to taxpayers throughout France, but they are people who do just that,” notes the DDFiP.

Avoid “traffic jams”

If the online declaration started on April 11, it will end on May 23 at midnight. For the paper declaration, it was March 29 and the deadline is May 21. David Pessarossi reminds us that it is preferable, and more appropriate, to anticipate this declaration and not wait until the last moment: “In the last days, there may be traffic jams. We take risks by queuing. The priority is to use the internet or contact the toll-free number. There are possibilities with the center of Carcassonne.

Single, non-premium rate national number: 0 804 401 401.

Make your declaration on the smartphone

This is a little new feature of this new campaign. It is now possible to make a simplified declaration with your smartphone. To date, 1,300 households have used it in the department. “It has an audience but, for the moment, from memory, we cannot do everything. It is above all the simplified income declaration and users receive their declaration notice on the application. If you need fill out a particular annex, for the moment this is not possible”, explains David Pessarossi.

“Increasingly complex” declarations

The tax return, a headache for some taxpayers.
The Independent – Nathalie Amen-Vals

Every year, the finance law brings its share of new features. To take into account when completing the famous tax return. If for an average employee, without another Source of income, the ordeal is not insurmountable (part of it being pre-filled), it can be complicated for others. And even become a headache for owners. Because in a game of cat and mouse, the administration always seeks to identify tax loopholes. “Declarations are becoming more and more complex. You often need assistance,” notes Jean-Baptiste Oliver, a chartered accountant and auditor, experienced in the exercise. With the end of paper, “and declarations seized by the administration”, it has been relieved of a burden which falls “on taxpayers and accounting firms”.

Income taxes: watch out for this hiccup for owners of furnished tourist accommodation

“This year, the novelty concerns non-professional furnished accommodation,” explains Jean-Baptiste Oliver. “More and more people are renting furnished properties. The tax conditions have been revised in the 2024 finance law.” From 50% reduction for furnished tourist accommodation not classified as tourist residence, we now go to 30%. And the rent ceiling is reduced from €77,000 to €15,000 to benefit from the micro-BIC regime (industrial and commercial profits), a simplified tax regime. If the ceiling is exceeded, owners must switch to a real tax regime.

In our sights, the explosion of rentals found on platforms such as Abritel, Airbnb, Booking, etc. and which is diverting many homes from long-term rentals. However, the tax administration has given furnished rental companies a respite for this year. They can, finally, continue to benefit from the micro-BIC regime under the same conditions as before the finance law for 2024, for rents collected in 2023.
