Jean-Luc Mélenchon described as a “traitor Freemason”, Jordan Bardella as a “racist”, Eric Zemmour as a “Jew”, Pascal Praud and even Marine Le Pen as a “fascist”. The village of Tourtoirac in Périgord Vert discovered on Monday 82 graves in the village cemetery covered with hate tagsapparently with Islamist connotations, as revealed by France Bleu Périgord.
In a press release this Tuesday, May 7 in the morning, the Périgueux prosecutor makes the connection with the series of tags which began at the end of last year on ordeals in this sector of Périgord Vert, in Saint-Pantaly-d’Excideuil, Cherveix-Cubas, Coulaures and Saint-Mesmin.
Pascal Praud, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Eric Zemmour
The last facts of the mysterious series dated March 11, two months ago, with the discovery of around fifty tagged tombs in the nearby village of Clermont-d’Excideuil. The writing is the same, in black spray paint. The tags were made between early Sunday afternoon and Monday midday, probably during the night.
But this time, the number of vandalized tombstones is impressive. Above all, previous inscriptions were limited to references to Islam and insults. This time, public figures are covered, with their date of birth and a date of death announced. “Mr. Habib 1961-2024”, for example, is it tagged on a grave, referring to the deputy for French people abroad Meyer Habib. Or “Mélenchon 1948-2027”.
All avenues studied
According to our information, investigators are studying all avenues: from the radicalized Islamist to the ultra-right activist who would like to create unrest one month before the European elections, through a person with psychiatric problems. “It’s shocking, you know, my grandmother’s grave is desecrated” laments the mayor of Tourtoirac Dominique Durand, but he does not see “no personal attack” against the people of the village, simply “debility”.
The Périgueux public prosecutor indicates that “investigations are continuing actively to identify the perpetrator(s) of the acts” the investigation opened for aggravated damage is entrusted to the research brigade of the Périgueux gendarmerie.
