A long May 8 and Ascension Bridge starts this Tuesday evening in France and in the metropolis of Lyon. With two consecutive public holidays in the middle of the week, the weekend coming and the return of almost summer weather, tourist activity will be in full swing for five days.

Bison Futé’s forecasts turn red this Tuesday in the direction of departures, orange on Wednesday and Saturday in the direction of returns. Sunday, in the direction of returns, is also announced as red.

In the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in the Rhône department and the metropolis of Lyon, Bison Futé plans in the coming days:

  • Tuesday May 7: red in the direction of departures, green in the direction of returns
  • Wednesday May 8: orange in the direction of departures, green for returns
  • Saturday May 11: green in the direction of departures, orange for returns
  • Sunday May 12: green in the direction of departures, red for returns

The A7 black spot between “dense” and “saturated” traffic

Bison Futé advises this Tuesday, May 7 to avoid the A7 motorway, between Lyon and Valence, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and between Valence and Orange, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Traffic is also expected to be “heavy” on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the eastern Lyon bypass (A46/RN 346).

For Wednesday May 8, it is advisable to avoid the A7 motorway, between Lyon and Orange, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. where traffic will be “saturated”. It will be “dense” from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday May 11, avoid the A7 motorway, between Orange and Lyon, between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.

On Sunday, it is also recommended not to take the A7 motorway between Salon-de-Provence and Orange from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and between Orange and Lyon, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Lyon ring road largely closed this week

For exceptional works linked to the new T9 tram line, a closure of the Lyon Laurent Bonnevay ring road is necessary for five days from May 8 to 12, 2024.

To carry out these massive works, a closure of the ring road and the Roulet bridge is necessary for five days, from the night of May 7 to 8 until May 12, 2024 at noon. Right in the middle of May 8th and Ascension Day.

Traffic will be prohibited in the direction of Paris between the A43 and the A42 and access to the A42 ramps will also be closed. On the northern ring road, towards Geneva, traffic will be prohibited.

Numerous projects underway in the Lyon Metropolis

Elsewhere in the metropolis, motorists will also have to deal with the numerous projects underway, particularly for the development of T6, T9 and T10 or even Voies Lyonnaises (Avenue Felix Faure, avenue Tony Garnier, rue Paul Bert, rue Garibaldi, avenue des Frères Lumières, Boulevard des Tchécoslovaques, Charpennes, Villeurbanne, Vaulx-en-Velin, Gerland, quays of Vieux-Lyon, route de Vienne, route de Genas, etc.).

Please also note that following an incident at La Mulatière, the Quai Jean Jacques Rousseau is closed to traffic, near Confluence, in both directions of traffic until further notice.
