Mitch Marner shocks Toronto fans with interview comment

The Leafs have been on vacation since Saturday night following an overtime loss in Game 7 of their series against the Bruins.

Another early exit and the scenario repeats itself in Toronto. This team doesn’t seem to be able to deliver in the playoffs and one of the players fans are pointing the finger at is Mitch Marner.

Marner has not offered the level of play expected of him in the playoffs for several years. In addition this season, it was he himself who was ahead of himself on the winning goal of David Pastrnak in overtime on Saturday.

Today was review time with the end of season interviews and Marner said something that seemed to have offended Leafs fans.

Even though he mentioned wanting to stay in Toronto and that playing for the Leafs means everything to him, he had the bad instinct of comparing himself to a god. In fact he said that Leafs players are considered gods in Toronto. A clumsy sentence that many fans did not appreciate.

Note here that we certainly do not believe that Marner compares himself to a god but rather meant that the star players of the Leafs are so revered, that they are somehow treated as such.

In short, despite everything, this is a comment that he should have kept to himself.

The summer promises to be busy for Leafs management. Several faces might not be back starting with the coach Sheldon Keefe.
