August 15, 2019 – Prince Edward Island received 1,000 invitations for 2019 in its latest draw for the Expression of Interest system.

The August 15 draw saw 143 invitations issued through the Labor Market Impact, Express Entry and Business Impact streams of the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program.

Labor Market Impact/Express Entry candidates received 133 invitations, while Business Impact candidates received the remaining 10.

A total of 1,065 invitations were issued in 2019.

Prince Edward Island launched its Expression of Interest system in early 2018 and has been conducting monthly draws since.

Prince Edward Island issued a total of 1,446 invitations in 2018, the first year it used an expression of interest system.

Of these, 1,240 went to Labor Market Impact and Express Entry candidates, the remaining 206 to Business Impact candidates.

The largest draw took place on October 18, 2018, when 297 candidates were invited.

Prince Edward Island Express Entry Stream

The PEI Express Entry category works by taking into account candidates already registered in the Federal Express Entry program for a provincial nomination.

Such a nomination adds 600 points to a candidate’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and effectively guarantees an Invitation to Apply (IP) for Canadian immigration.

The PEI Express Entry category Has two pathways to permanent residence in Canada, one for candidates with a job offer and one for others.

Work Impact Category

1) Skilled worker stream

This employer-focused stream allows skilled workers with a job offer in PEI to apply. to be named permanent residents of Canada if they meet the following criteria:

  • An offer of full-time employment from a Prince Edward Island business in an occupation classified as National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level “0”, “A” or “B” ;
  • Have completed post-secondary education, with a minimum of 14 years of formal education;
  • Between 21 and 55 years old
  • At least two years of full-time work experience in the last five years;
  • Sufficient command of English or French to occupy the position offered;
  • Sufficient settlement funds;
  • Expression of intention to settle in Prince Edward Island.

2) Critical worker stream

This category is designed to address labor shortages and is open to foreign workers already in Prince Edward Island who hold jobs in specific critical occupations. The main nomination criteria are:

  • A full-time job offer from a Prince Edward Island company in one of the following occupations:
    • Truck driver
    • Customer service representative;
    • Ouvrier;
    • Food and beverage server;
    • Housekeeping attendant
  • 6 months of work experience in the Prince Edward Island business sector;
  • Current valid Canadian work permit;
  • High school diploma and minimum of 12 years of formal education;
  • Between 21 and 55 years old
  • At least two years of full-time work experience in the last five years;
  • Demonstrate basic skills in English or French;
  • Sufficient settlement funds;
  • Demonstrated intention to settle in Prince Edward Island.

Business Impact Categories

Work permit component

Individuals applying under the PEI Work Permit stream must obtain a Canadian work permit and work for a PEI company for a certain period of time, as outlined in a performance agreement.

Once the performance agreement is completed, the applicant must make a minimum investment of $150,000 in the business and commit to managing it on a daily basis from PEI.

Previously, Prince Edward Island operated direct permanent residency business streams, but these were closed in September 2018 due to immigration fraud concerns.
