The firefighters were called on Sunday May 5, 2024, at 8 p.m., after the discovery of an inanimate man below the cornice, in Bretignolles-sur-Mer (Vendée). It was walkers who saw the body, near the Sainte Véronique rock, in a rocky area, near a beach. He was about ten meters away, below the path.
An open investigation
Five firefighters from the center of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie intervened. “A doctor carried out the death certificate and the body was left at the disposal of the gendarmerie”, explain the firefighters.According to the mayor of Brétignolles-sur-Mer, Frédéric Fouquet, the deceased was from the town.
An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of the death.
