It was one of the first departments to mobilize very strongly against the “clash of knowledge” reform. In Loire-Atlantique, parents of students announce a resumption of the movement, after the holidays and the May 8 bridge.
Thursday May 16, a coordination meeting must be held between the unions with the parents of students, and on Saturday May 25, a demonstration is announced in Nantes.

Announced at the start of the year, the “shock of knowledge” reform must be put in place from the start of the school year in September 2024. It notably plans to make access to high school conditional on obtaining the college certificate, the reduction of groups in vocational high schools, and especially the establishment of level groups for French and mathematics in middle school.
It is above all this measure which arouses the opposition of many parents of students.This is a form of social segregation“, underlined Céline Marcy, general secretary of FCPE44 on the set of France 3 Pays de la Loire. “For mathematics and French, we will decide that the good ones will be with the good ones, the average ones with the average ones, and the weakest ones with the weakest ones.“
The FCPE emphasizes that numerous studies have demonstrated the ineffectiveness of these level groups in helping students progress. “For the good, they remain good, while the average and the weak will be protected in their difficulties. We know that it is together that we can learn better“, specifies Céline Marcy.

If the holidays marked a break in the demonstrations and actions of parents, many remained mobilized by sending “postcards” on social networks, calling for creativity.
If the back-to-school week, which has only two working days, is not conducive to a resumption of the movement, the general secretary of FCPE 44 notes that other regions have seen mobilization resume since the students returned school in other areas.
“We are well aware that there has been this downtime, but in 44, we have a very active network of parents, who already have the banners, who are very motivated“, explains Céline Marcy, who says she is confident for the continuation of the movement.
