“We want to show that there are young hunters in Périgord, and above all to be able to represent them. » This is the mission that falls to the very young president of the Departmental Association of Young Hunters and Huntresses of the Dordogne [ADJC 24], Alban Bernier. He was elected following the constitutive general assembly of the structure, organized on Saturday May 4 in the premises of the Departmental Federation of Hunters, in Marsac-sur-l’Isle.

The general assembly was organized in the premises of the hunters’ federation, in Marsac-sur-l’Isle.

Michel Faure

Around forty Périgord residents responded to the invitation, relayed on social networks and by word of mouth. “Hunters under the age of 40 can join the association, but also all hunters, without age limit, provided they have had their license for less than five years,” explains Manon Tancrez, member of the office. She adds: “The goal is to discover all the modes of hunting and perpetuate the transmission of this passion. New hunters arrive, without necessarily having a territory. The association can help them find the teams and the hunting method that suits them. »

As for the JA

Michel Amblard, the president of the federation, encourages the movement: “It’s a bit like what happened with the Young Farmers [JA]when they wanted to break away from the National Federation of Farmers’ Unions [FNSEA]. We will support them in different actions. » The president of the young hunters, based in Douville, indicates: “There were similar structures in Gironde or Haute-Vienne. The idea now is to make yourself known, in particular by participating in the Hunting Festival organized in Saint-Astier in July. »

“There are around 16,000 hunters. 3,000 are eligible to join us, this opens up great prospects”

Ultimately, young hunters want to organize shooting traps and gatherings. “It’s a beautiful but little-known passion,” breathes Yoann, who works near Grignols. We have in mind hunters who drink and who kill. Hunting has evolved, but not its image. »

The young Périgordin convinced his friends Mathieu and Nicolas to come and participate in the discussions. The latter indicates: “It’s good that young people are getting involved and representing what hunting is. There is a need for dynamism. » Mathieu continues: “We are reaching a stage where the world of hunting is finding it more and more difficult to make its voice heard. This happens through young people. »

Once the statutes were voted on and the board of directors was elected, the members of the office indicated that they wanted to highlight all forms of hunting, not just big game hunting. Manon Tancrez, currently an employee of the Hunters’ Federation, adds: “There are around 16,000 hunters in Dordogne. 3,000 are eligible to join us, which opens up great prospects. »
