A new boost for àVélo: Quebec City unveils its plan for the next four years

Having barely started the 2024 àVélo season, Quebec City has unveiled the deployment plan for this bike-sharing service for the next four years. We plan to add 500 bicycles per year for a total of 3,300 bicycles in 2028.

At least that is the announcement made by the mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, and by the president of the Réseau de transport de la Capitale (RTC), Maude Mercier Larouche, Monday morning, at Quai des Cageux.

“We had a resounding start this year, we won’t stop there. We break with the idea of thinking about the City for a year. We want to be ambitious,” said Mayor Marchand, speaking of a service that is “fun” and “accessible” to the population.

The latter reiterated that increasing the use of shared bikes allows cars to be taken off the road and thus helps reduce road congestion.

Mme Mercier Larouche insisted that àVélo will be extended to 14 new neighborhoods, on the outskirts of Quebec, in the six boroughs of Quebec. It’s not just a service for central neighborhoods, she argued.

The precise locations of the stations will be announced annually.
