The Friborg Hospital (HFR) plans to develop new services such as urology, increase its number of geriatric beds and redefine its pediatric mission. These guidelines are part, among others, of the 2024-27 operational plan presented on Monday.

“This new plan is a continuation of that of 2020-23, with the aim of developing services and the construction of a new hospital center by 2035,” indicates the HFR in a press release. end of a press briefing in Villars-sur-Glâne.

The evolution of services remains at the heart of the project for the next four years. In addition to the development of urology, the HFR board of directors plans to reinternalize gastroenterology and strengthen efficiency, through better separation of stationary and ambulatory flows, with dedicated spaces for each.

Ageing population

The aging of the population also requires adapting infrastructures, by increasing beds in geriatrics and geriatric rehabilitation. It also involves adapting stationary and emergency infrastructures. The plan also cites the creation of a mobile nursing team and the improvement of the management of non-vital emergencies in collaboration with established doctors.

To develop the outpatient sector in the regions, the Tavel site should host the next health center. That of Meyriez-Morat must follow, as well as the project to expand the Riaz site.

“Crucial” vote

These projects will see the light of day on condition that the investments planned in the decree submitted to a cantonal vote on June 9 are accepted, recall the authorities and the HFR, who speak of a “crucial vote”.

It will also be necessary to address the shortage of specialized personnel. This will notably involve “optimizing the composition of medical-care teams”.

The financial challenge is no less. The objective is to achieve balanced accounts by 2026. Work on cost control will be intensified. “This involves, for example, continuing to improve the average length of stay (DMS) on all sites as well as the invoicing of services”, in particular, specifies the press release.
