Attin (Pas-de-Calais), a small town of 850 inhabitants, continues to experience an ordeal, six months after the floods. The damage still persists for some victims.

Dikes submerged and water gushing from the ground. Flooded by the Canche last November, the town of Attin experienced an ordeal with flooding. Six months later, this town of 850 inhabitants is still struggling to dry out. With the rising tides, the water persists among the inhabitants.

“Now we find ourselves with mud. Even the grass no longer grows back. We find ourselves with completely rotten land,” complains Xavier, a stricken resident of Attin.

“We are starting to have hatred”

Xavier moved back into his house three weeks ago. In his living room, some reclaimed furniture between four walls so damp that mushrooms are starting to grow.

“The children cannot come to the house, because we can no longer welcome them,” he explains.

He adds: “You can’t go outside because it’s execrable, psychologically it’s becoming difficult. We’re starting to have hatred, we’re going to need strike operations for state organizations to understand the state we’re in.” “.

“Should we leave?”

Help that doesn’t arrive and work to do yourself. Anger is starting to be felt among some victims. Charles and his family had planned to sell their house, but now they don’t know what to do.

“Aren’t we doing all this for nothing? Are we really going to be protected? Should we leave?” he asks.

He continues: “We don’t know what we should do, we would like to have real answers. We have been wandering around for six months, we are trying to get information, but we will not leave with a winter without being protected” .

All criticize the total absence of emergency works in the town. Contacted, the Attin town hall indicates that work has been requested but is still awaiting validation by the prefecture.
