Ziguinchor, May 6 (APS) – Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has officially resigned from his post as mayor of the commune of Ziguinchor (south), which he has held since the municipal and departmental elections of January 2022, APS learned from official Source, Monday.

The governor of the Ziguinchor region, Mor Talla Tine, confirmed the news, indicating “having acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Minister of Territorial Communities, Planning and Territorial Development, informing him of the resignation of the now ex- Town’s mayor”.

This resignation of Mr. Sonko from his elective mandate obeys a directive from the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye, asking any member of the new government installed on April 5, who holds elective mandates (territorial authorities, National Assemblies), to resign from office within one month.

In this wake, the Minister of Labor and Relations with Institutions, Yankhoba Diémé, resigned from his post as president of the Departmental Council of Bignona (south), also learned the APS from this local authority.
