In front of a school: a water main break causes problems in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal

A water main break that occurred right in front of an elementary school caused many problems during rush hour Monday morning, particularly for parents who came to bring their children to the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.

A 12-inch pipe from the local water system broke around 5 a.m. on Rachel Street, forcing the closure of the road between Avenue des Érables and Avenue De Lorimier.

A huge puddle had time to form on the street, slowing down the cars that were traveling, but also making it more difficult for pedestrians who had difficulty avoiding the water to move.

Public works employees were on site in the morning to try to stop the leak, as were firefighters and police officers who were providing surveillance.

No homes were flooded and no power outages occurred in the area.

According to the City of Montreal, this break reminds us of the importance of maintaining the aqueduct network. It also plans to invest $700 million for road work and water pipes this year.
