The Dakar Checkers League organized a competition called the “Sargal Tamsir Barry tournament” yesterday, in the premises of the Pikine Nord town hall. Federal Master Ibrahima Gaye was crowned.

Big favorite of the “Sargal Tamsir Barry tournament”, International Master Modou Seck came in 5th place. The one who has won almost all of the games organized at the local level since the start of 2024, has not honored his status as No. 1 favorite on paper. Indeed, it was Ibrahima Gaye who topped this competition which was played over 8 rounds in the Swiss system. The Federal Master is followed respectively by GMI Bassirou Ba (2nd), Cheikh Lam (3rd) and Maguette Niang (4th). The GMI Ndiaga Samb ranked in 10th position.

The winner received an envelope of 75,000 FCFAthe 2nd 50,000 FCFAthe 3rd 30,000 FCFAthe 4th 20,000 FCFAthe 5th 15,000 FCFA. Players ranked 6th to 10th each pocketed 10,000 FCFA.

The Dakar League organized this tournament in honor of Tamsir Barry, a week after receiving equipment from the patron consisting of 20 chess boards, 20 competition tables worth 800,000 FCFAin addition to an envelope of 500,000 FCFA.
