The vice-president of the Gard Departmental Council in charge of Sports, candidate in the second round of the 2020 municipal elections against the LR mayor of Nîmes, decides to pass the torch to the PCF Gard.
InfOccitanie: why should you leave your position as departmental secretary of the Communist Party in Gard?
Vincent Bouget: I’m handing over, ten years is enough, we have to adapt to the challenges to come.
What challenges are you talking about?
There is a lot to come for the Communist Party, in the political battle, the battle of ideas, and the work closer to the populations…
Is this not compatible with your hats as elected opposition to the city of Nîmes and the Agglo?
This requires time and effective organization. With my mandates, my professional activity (professor of history and geography, editor’s note) and my personal life, I don’t have enough. No one is irreplaceable and I will continue to act and campaign where I live and where I am elected.
Do you remain part of the PCF?
Yes yes, I stay away of course!
With a view to a potential candidacy for Nîmes in 2026, is this a political tactic to rid yourself of the communist aura which barely shone at the polls during the last votes?
I am leaving the responsibility of departmental secretary but I remain a communist and I believe that I will have difficulty getting rid of the label… I have always considered that to be fully communist is to work for unity, to flee all sectarianism and issues of apparatus, and work with all those who want to to reduce injustices, dominations, discriminations… I do not intend to stop, I will do it in a new place, but it is is very good like that.
Who will take over from you?
The succession is being built internally and the response will be given on October 11. The communists are sovereign.
