Saint-Juéry. A triplet champion of the Provençal game Tarn

Lacaune recently organized the Tarn de Triplette Provençal game championship. From 8 a.m. on Saturday, seven teams from Pétanque Saint-Juérien were competing in pouring rain and wet pitches for the group stage. Five of them managed to get their ticket for the round of 16, unfortunately fateful for two of us. In the round of 16, the triplets Jean-Michel-Michel and Nicolas-Sébastien-Yoren lost and left the Jolan-Matthéo-Romain team alone for the quarter-finals the next day. On Sunday morning, under a warmer sky, our three young people attack their game. After having eliminated the Brassagaise and Blanaise teams in the pool the day before, then the Lacaunais locals in 16th and the Lislois in 8th, for this quarter-final, they won quite easily 11-3 against the more experienced Labruguiérois and joined the final square in which they appear as outsiders.

In the semi-final, against the Castrais de la Bouriatte, they quickly fell behind 0-4 then 1-7. Despite this difficult start, without getting upset, by gradually raising their level of play to the point, they equalized and went ahead to win 13 to 7 and qualify for the final.

For the title, they face the Gaillac team of Boule d’Or, the favorite with many titles. The game starts well for our colors (6-0 after the third lead). Their opponents resurface but our Saint-Juériens maintain their level of play and this balance places us at 8-2 after the 7th lead. On the next three, they have winning balls but only score one point each time. The Gaillacois then score 2 points and make us fear a change of state of mind. But on the 12th and last lead, Romain engages well, Jolan succeeds in the important recovery and Matthéo does not tremble to add the final point, synonymous with the title of Champions of the Tarn de Triplette Jeu Provençal 2024 and qualification for the French 5 Championships, July 6 and 7 in Briançon (05).

Congratulations to all three for this well-deserved title and for the level of play produced over these two days. Pétanque Saint-Juérien is happy that young people (average age 24) are succeeding our veterans from last year.
