The legendary treasure hunt, launched in 1993 in , was solved during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, announced its organizer. An outcome experienced as a deliverance and as the end of an era for many owls.

It’s 6:11 a.m. this Thursday, October 3, when a first message – cold and technical – falls like a shovel on the treasure hunt Discord. “A potentially winning solution is being verified. The verification system [en ligne] is currently locked and no longer allows you to submit your solutions. Further information will be communicated to you as soon as possible.” Two hours later, at 8:26 a.m., a second message delivered the final blow. Its title, surrounded by two “forbidden meaning” emojis, is unequivocal: “Don’t go digging!” Then this text, which will paralyze thousands of “owlers” in France: “We confirm that the countermark of the Golden Owl was unearthed last night, simultaneously with a solution being sent to the online verification system. There is therefore no point in moving to dig on the location you assume to be the cache. As previously announced, we are verifying the validity of the proposed solution.” At the end of the day, the surviving organizer, Michel Becker, 74, confirmed the discovery again. But faced with the avalanche “requests for interviews and invitations on set”, he announced that he would publish an explanatory video on YouTube, first promised for Thursday afternoon, then this Friday.
