Villeneuve-d’Ascq, first of the regular season, crushed Lattes Montpellier this Sunday (103-67, 95-64 in the first leg) to reach the final of the French women’s championship Basket Landes, winner of Tarbes (65-54 , 62-67 in the first leg).

Northerners and Landeses will aim for a second title, after 2017 for the former, 2021 for the latter, in a best-of-three series from May 11. The Guerrières de l’ESBVA, finalists of the Women’s League last year (beaten by Asvel) and of the Euroleague three weeks ago, left the Héraultaises hoping for a period (41-47).

Before getting angry, at long distance in particular (16/37 including 4/4 for Caroline Hériaud) winning the second period 62 to 20, and leaving only five small points on the way in the last quarter. The Montoises, beaten last Saturday in the final of the Coupe de France by Bourges, were also trailing at the break, by ten lengths (34-24) against the Tarbaises of Carla Leite (17 pts including 12 in the first period)

Only seventh in the regular season but victorious over Bourges in the previous round, the TGB conceded a 12-0 to start the second period. Once again supported by their American leader Alexis Peterson (17 pts, 6 rebounds and 4 assists), the Landeses maintained their grip to have a 10-point lead (63-53) with just under three minutes to go, before a basket from Angela Salvadores 35 seconds from the buzzer sealed their success.
