Weather alerts for thunderstorms and rain in Senegal, Thursday and Friday

The National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) issued its weather bulletin n°257 on October 3, 2024. These forecasts are valid from noon on October 3 until noon on October 4.

According to ANACIM, thunderstorms and light to moderate rain are expected in localities in southern Senegal, including Kolda, Sédhiou and Ziguinchor. These phenomena are also expected in the east of the country, in the regions of Kédougou, Bakel and Tambacounda, with possible spillovers towards the center-south, including Kaffrine, Kaolack and Fatick. The rest of the country will experience cloudy to temporarily cloudy skies.

Sensible heat will persist across the country, particularly in the eastern and northern regions, where maximum temperatures will oscillate between 35°C and 39°C. Visibility will generally be good throughout the territory.

Winds will blow from the west to southwest, with light to moderate intensity.

Regarding tide information in Dakar, on October 3, 2024, high tides are forecast at 09:16 with a height of 1.83 meters and at 9:36 p.m. with a height of 1.77 meters. Low tides will occur at 3:04 a.m. with a height of 0.62 meters and at 3:26 p.m. with a height of 0.59 meters. For October 4, 2024, high tides will be at 9:44 a.m. with a height of 1.80 meters and at 10:02 p.m. with a height of 1.77 meters. Low tides are forecast at 3:34 a.m. with a height of 0.61 meters and at 3:52 p.m. with a height of 0.59 meters.

Detailed information by region was also provided. In Thiès, particularly in Tivaouane and Mbour, the weather will be hot with cloudy periods, temperatures varying between 26°C and 31°C, and weak to moderate westerly winds. In Saint-Louis, Bango and Dagana, hot weather with cloudy periods is expected, temperatures between 27°C and 32°C, and weak to moderate westerly winds.

In Louga, hot weather with cloudy periods is forecast, temperatures between 24°C and 36°C, with weak to moderate westerly winds. In Podor, hot weather is forecast with temperatures between 28°C and 39°C, and light to moderate westerly winds. In Linguère, cloudy periods with warm weather are expected, temperatures between 26°C and 34°C, and weak to moderate westerly winds.

In Diourbel, cloudy periods with warm weather are expected, temperatures between 26°C and 35°C, and weak to moderate westerly winds. In Kaffrine, light rain with hot weather is forecast, temperatures between 22°C and 34°C, and weak to moderate westerly winds. In Fatick, cloudy weather with light rain is expected, temperatures between 24°C and 33°C, and light to moderate westerly winds.

In Kaolack, chances of light rain with hot weather are forecast, temperatures between 25°C and 34°C, and light to moderate westerly winds. In Tambacounda, particularly in Koumpentoum, thunderstorms and rain with hot weather are forecast, temperatures between 24°C and 32°C, and weak to moderate westerly winds. In Matam, predominantly clouds with warm weather are expected, temperatures between 28°C and 38°C, and weak to moderate westerly winds.

In Goudiry and Bakel, hot weather is forecast with temperatures between 26°C and 35°C, and weak to moderate westerly winds. In Kédougou, thunderstorms and rain with hot weather are forecast, temperatures between 23°C and 32°C, and light to moderate southwesterly winds. In Kolda, thunderstorms and rain with hot weather are forecast, temperatures between 22°C and 33°C, and weak to moderate southwest winds.

In Ziguinchor, particularly in Bignona, thunderstorms and rain with hot weather are expected, temperatures between 22°C and 34°C, and weak to moderate westerly winds. In Sédhiou, thunderstorms and rain with hot weather are forecast, temperatures between 22°C and 33°C, and weak to moderate southwest winds. At Cap Skirring, warm weather is forecast with temperatures between 22°C and 31°C, and light to moderate westerly winds.
