A tragedy occurred early this Thursday morning, around 7 a.m., on the RD951 between Reims and Épernay: a motorcyclist fatally hit a heavy goods vehicle after the hamlet of Montchenot, while he was driving towards Épernay. The semi-trailer, which was traveling in the opposite direction, then ended up in the ditch.
The truck driver shocked, but unhurt
Alerted at 7:05 a.m., the firefighters could only note the death of the motorcyclist who seemed to have deliberately hit the truck. According to the gendarmerie investigation, the man aged around thirty had actually left his home near Reims, three hours earlier, announcing his suicidal intentions.
The driver of the truck was unhurt, but in a state of shock. His testimony, as well as the findings, corroborate the hypothesis of a voluntary collision.
Already busy as usual at this time of the morning, traffic was very disrupted, particularly in the direction of Reims, with a traffic jam of more than five kilometers going all the way back to Saint-Imoges. The RD951 was also saturated in the opposite direction, from Champfleury.
