In , a community offers scholarships of 4,800 euros to attract medical students

This is what the Bouzonvillois Trois Frontières community of communes is offering in return for an installation on its territory for 10 years.

“The community of communes Bouzonvillois Trois Frontières – CCB3F (40 communes, 25,000 inhabitants), located in on the border of Germany and Luxembourg, is facing a deterioration in its medical demographics,” underlines the community which is launching a operation aimed at encouraging young people to come and settle there.

At the heart of this system (call for applications), the granting of scholarships of 4,800 euros/year to any medical student if they undertake to practice as a general practitioner or specialist, for at least ten years (5 years opening reimbursement of sums collected if non-compliance, 5 years in the form of a moral pact), on the territory. Support during installation is also mentioned.

Two scholarships are awarded for the 2024/2025 academic year. The assistance is aimed at medical students and interns in . “It will be granted, at any time during the course, from the 4th year and up to and including the 10th year of study,” specifies the CCB3F. There are “emergencies”. The territory has a very low density of general practitioners: 4 doctors per 10,000 inhabitants in Bouzonvillois and 8.3 doctors per 10,000 inhabitants in Sierckois. A significant proportion of these doctors are over 55 years old.

The territory also has assets. The CCB3F has 3 associations of health professionals and 2 hospitals less than 30 minutes away: Mercy hospital in , Bel Air hospital in (CHR Metz-Thionville). Three multi-professional health centers (MSP) are also being created. Coming to work in this sector also means “working in the countryside, in a nice area, close to Metz with lots of services…”, specifies the community.

To apply, students are invited to send their application, with CV and cover letter, to the CCB3F (file downloadable from the community website, “Health” section).
