“It’s not to scare you, warns Florence Abadie. But the more we understand that risk is part of our lives, the better we prepare for it and the less afraid we are. » The deputy in charge of security, in Saint-Malo (Ille-et-Vilaine) thus presented the overhaul of an important document, during the municipal council of September 26, 2024. A “municipal obligation” to inform about the major risks facing the city.

Natural or technological risks

In the Ille-et-Vilaine department, thirteen major risks have been identified. Saint-Malo is exposed to eleven of them… Marine submersion, of course, but also the transport of dangerous materials, industrial risks, ground movements, dam failure, earthquakes, exposure to radon, terrorism, health risk or war residue.

In the 36-page document, each risk is explained, mapped and indicates the procedure to follow if confronted. “It is a very educational document with detachable sheets indicating the right reflexes to adopt in the event of risks and even a guide to preparing a survival kit,” explains Florence Abadie.

A day to understand everything

The city of Saint-Malo has also adopted a system to warn residents in the event of risk by email or SMS. To benefit from it, simply register on the City website.

To raise awareness among residents, a day on risk prevention is organized on Thursday October 17, 2024. Activities will provide a better understanding of the risks, with quizzes, role-plays and games. Stands will also explain the main impacts of climate change: submersion, heat islands, floods, drought, etc.

Thursday October 17, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:45 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Rocabey sports hall in Saint-Malo.
