The 2nd edition of the Dakar International Theater and Humor Festival (Fidath) is being held from October 3 to 6 at the Grand Théâtre and the Blaise Senghor Cultural Center.
“The second edition is being prepared and we are at the final turn. This second edition takes place in the last weekend before the opening of classes. A good opportunity for pupils and students to go out with their families to the performance halls of the Grand Théâtre for the official ceremony and those of the Blaise Senghor cultural center,” says Yacine Sané, director of the festival. A well-known actress on Senegalese stages, Yacine Sané is also an actress and cultural entrepreneur. For this 2nd edition of the Dakar International Theater and Humor Festival (Fidath), the event will see the participation of countries from the sub-region. “Shows will come to us from Mali (Tafe Fanga or the power of the loincloth which deals with gender-based violence).” A show which, according to Ms. Sane, fits with the theme of this edition: “Woman: mirror and hope”, “Jiguen ji guën”. “The shows from Burkina Faso and Guinea will bring up the rear, not counting those from Senegal represented by a company from Bambey and another from Pikine,” she says.
According to the actress, the festival aims for several objectives through the organization of such an event. “The objectives are, firstly, to create a framework for the dissemination and expression of cultural diversity, to contribute to strengthening the quality of creations and finally to contribute generally to the development of the performing arts in Senegal as a as a sector of activity generating income and synergy favorable to sustainable and equitable development,” informs Yacine Sané. “The innovation of this second edition is the collaboration with the Grand Théâtre de Dakar, with its General Director who was kind enough to make the room available to us to host the opening ceremony. We are also in partnership with Arterial Network to run training sessions in cultural entrepreneurship,” she emphasizes. A panel whose theme is “What outcome to the crisis of Senegalese theater?” is also in the program.
The demonstration joins the Senegalese League Against Cancer (Lisca) of Dakar to, according to its initiator, “stand in solidarity with (our) sisters suffering from cancer in this month of Pink October”, hence the choice of a dress code in pink. Calling on other women to dress in pink to leave their mark on this Pink October campaign, Yacine Sané and her collaborators wish to participate in the effort to combat cancers that affect women.
