For his first match in France with the Real Madrid jersey, Kylian Mbappé undoubtedly expected a happier return. Injured for around ten days, the French striker was initially announced as unavailable for the match against Losc on Wednesday evening in the Champions League (1-0). But he finally made the trip and even played around forty minutes, for a disappointing result.
Widely booed when he entered before the hour mark, Kylian Mbappé was unable to reverse the trend of a match dominated by Lille, who had led the score since Jonathan David’s penalty. Worse, the former Parisian did not attempt a single strike: a first for him since he joined Real Madrid this summer, according to Opta.
Good stats, poor performance
Author of 7 goals in 10 games this season, Mbappé has not only had very successful matches with the Madrilenians, but his statistical performance is good and he has always managed to create chances, until now. This was not the case at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium, where the Lille defense left very few situations for the visitors.
Usually so effective in the Champions League, the captain of the Blues scored against Stuttgart at the Bernabeu (3-1) on the first day. But it is also the first time that he has started a meeting on the bench with Real, which partly explains his lack of impact, especially after an injury which caused him to miss the derby last weekend in La Liga against Atlético.
