Morocco responds to every call for solidarity. A range of Moroccan agricultural experts are heading to Mauritania with the aim of helping this country overcome its crisis and develop the sector. As part of its desire to strengthen agricultural capacities and stimulate its local economy, Mauritania is calling on Moroccan expertise in agriculture. With proven experience and recognized for their know-how, these specialists were called upon to optimize the country’s agricultural productivity and move towards self-sufficiency in agricultural production.

A significant agricultural crisis combined with land aridity has led Mauritania into a complex economic and environmental meander. Wanting to ensure sustainable food security, Mauritania requested Moroccan expertise. This strategic collaboration began with the arrival of many Moroccan farmers in Mauritania. These professionals brought with them modern and innovative agricultural methods, as well as cutting-edge techniques adapted to the climatic and geographical specificities of the country. The main objective is to develop the fertile lands of the south of the country, which are rich in water resources and benefit from a favorable climate, in order to produce high quality agricultural products and thus meet the growing needs of the population.

For Mauritania, this collaboration with Morocco is a key step in its overall strategy aimed at achieving food self-sufficiency. The country currently depends heavily on agricultural imports, particularly from Morocco, which supplies it with around 170,000 tonnes of various agricultural products each year. This dependence highlights the importance of strengthening national agricultural capacities to reduce vulnerability to fluctuations in international markets and ensure the country’s food security.

Reports from the field indicate close and fruitful collaboration between Moroccan specialized labor and Mauritanian farmers. Hand in hand, they make the most of the potential of Mauritanian soils and the region’s abundant water resources, by implementing sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

Aware of the opportunities offered by international markets, Mauritania, with the support of Moroccan expertise, is trying to strengthen its presence and competitiveness in these markets. It has already managed to penetrate the North American and European markets with high-quality agricultural products, thanks to international certifications and standards.

In perspective, Mauritania plans to explore new promising markets, such as Eastern Europe and Australia. This approach is part of a global strategy aimed at increasing the competitiveness of Mauritanian agriculture on a global scale, guaranteeing the sustainability of agricultural production and diversifying the local economy to stimulate economic growth and create jobs.

Furthermore, these initiatives and collaborations between Morocco and Mauritania are part of a global and ambitious approach aimed at achieving the sustainable development objectives and the economic resilience of the country.
