Dakar, Oct 2 (APS) – A rainy-stormy episode is expected over the period from October 7 to 9 in the eastern localities of the country and will gradually evolve over almost the entire country, causing moderate to light rain along its route. , the APS learned on Wednesday

On the other hand, there will be “a lull during the period from 1is to October 6 throughout the territory with the exception of the southern zone (Ziguinchor, Sédhiou, Kolda, Kédougou), where rain is expected in places”, reports a summary document resulting from the enlarged meeting of the multidisciplinary working group (GTP), at the initiative of the National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (Anacim).

“The seasonal accumulation as of September 30 varies between 112.5 mm in Saint-Louis and 1883, 7 mm in Cap Skiring,” notes the text, indicating that the comparison map shows an almost normal to slightly excess situation in several northern and central localities. and south of the country. “Slight deficits are noted in , Sémmé, Guédiawaye, Méouane, Mérina Dakhar, Diourbel, Bambey, Wack Ngouna, Médina Yoro Foula”.

As for the hydrological situation, it is marked by two trends in the basins of the Senegal and Gambia rivers with a decrease upstream in Bakel and Kidira and an increase downstream in Matam and Podor and Gouloumbou for the Gambia.

The text reports a third exceedance of the alert level of the Senegal River at Bakel and an increase in the flood at Matam and Podor with higher water levels, in addition to a risk of the Gambia River overflowing on the Simenti-Gouloumbou axis.

The agriculture department, for its part, announces a “very advanced and normal” crop situation. ”The first wave of sowing moves on to the harvest phase for crops such as millet, corn, sorghum and peanuts. Overall, it is the phase of harvesting and ripening of crops,” the text indicates.

On the other hand, the third decade of September presents a phytosanitary situation marked by infestations of the fall armyworm on corn, the millet ear miner caterpillar and beetles on millet mainly in the regions of Kaffrine, Thiès and Sédhiou.

In this regard, phytosanitary treatments are continuing with the deployment of plant protection units (UPV) on the sites concerned. They are supported by village struggle committees (CLV) equipped with manual sprayers and atomizers.

The enlarged meeting of the multidisciplinary working group (GTP) recommends intensifying surveys for early warning but also revitalizing village control committees.

The livestock management notes that pasture is not very abundant in the regions of Louga and Saint-Louis due to irregularities in rainfall in the north. However, in other areas, ponds and backwaters are filled for watering livestock.

According to the Ecological Monitoring Center (Cse), the situation in the third decade of September presented well-established vegetation throughout the national territory.

The National Agency for Agricultural and Rural Advice (Ancar), for its part, advises producers to monitor seed-eating birds and to harvest and dry in the sun for at least 48 hours, prepare the stacks, prevent mold by spreading fungicides approved for millet and sorghum. Recommendations were also made for other crops.

The Food Security and Resilience Commission (CSAR) informed that supplies of dry local cereals (millet, corn sorghum) are weakening with the exhaustion of stocks from the previous agricultural season. “The availability of legumes (groundnuts, cowpeas) has decreased significantly in the collection markets”.

The GTP brings together several State structures and holds periodic ten-day meetings to monitor the agricultural campaign.
