According to information from Soleil, the intervention could be linked to an inmate from the Donnacona penitentiary who was visiting the CHUL for surgery.
When the arrival of Soleil at the scene, at least three unmarked vehicles with armed correctional officers on board were leaving the scene.
“We received a call for a potentially armed individual in the area of the shopping centers on Laurier Boulevard,” indicates Pierre-Olivier Lévesque, spokesperson for the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ).
However, the police do not confirm a link between their intervention and the visit of an inmate to the CHUL.

“We did all our validations and checks and we didn’t locate anyone. The SPVQ is starting to demobilize,” said Mr. Lévesque about an hour after the start of the operation.
If the authorities are demobilizing, it is because they no longer fear for the safety of the public, specifies the spokesperson.
Contacted by The Sun, the spokesperson for the Donnacona penitentiary claims to have been informed of the police operation, but does not comment further. “It would be risky at this time to link one event to another.”
The tactical intervention group was mobilized for the occasion.
No impact at CHUL
Kassandra Nadeau-Lmarche, spokesperson for the CHU de Québec, confirms that the SPVQ has carried out a “security check in the CHUL and its environment.”
“We cannot go into the details of the intervention, but our collaboration allowed us to maintain access taking into account the information transmitted to us by the police department,” she said.
Access to the hospital is not compromised. Patients who have appointments or who must come to the CHUL can do so.
