Reconstruction for the case of the truck driver killed by a sewer drain: “there are still gray areas”

This Tuesday, a reenactment was organized in Héron after the tragic death of a Romanian driver. Last May, a drain grate was thrown from a bridge, causing his death. Six suspects, four adults and two minors, are involved and must provide their version of the facts.

The investigation into the death of a Romanian driver killed by a manhole cover thrown from a bridge on the E42 in Héron is progressing. Tuesday evening, a reconstruction was underway. The police had cordoned off the entire perimeter around the bridge, preventing any external visibility, including by drones.

This reconstruction ended around 6 a.m. The lawyers confirmed that “it was conclusive. Even if there are still gray areas, we can see more clearly“.

Several avenues could be ruled out:A version of the facts which polluted the investigation and the possibility of a potential use of a strap also falls through the cracks“.

The facts date back to May 11, around 1 a.m. A drain grate, weighing around twenty kilos, was thrown from a bridge and violently hit the windshield of the truck driven by a Romanian truck driver.

The victim was killed instantly. The investigation quickly led to the arrest of six suspects, four adults and two minors, who are believed to be responsible for this act. Initial investigations revealed that some of them had inhaled laughing gas shortly before the incident.

A reconstruction under tension

The reconstruction aimed to clarify the exact circumstances of the tragedy. The six suspects, accompanied by their lawyers, each had to deliver their version of events.

The six suspects met this evening for a reconstruction of the facts: each will have to individually explain what happened that night“, explains a source on site. The objective was to compare the different stories and determine who actually launched the grid.

Initially qualified as an assassination, the facts were reclassified as “nasty traffic obstructions resulting in death“. Premeditation is for the moment ruled out, although this qualification could still evolve.

Currently, one of the adults is being held in preventive detention, while the three others are under electronic surveillance. One of the two minors was placed in a specialized institution (IPPJ).

The reconstruction could help identify the real person responsible for this tragic act. The families, like the investigators, are now waiting for light to be shed on this fateful night of May 11.
