Bad news for Aliou Cissé. A few days before the double confrontation between Senegal and Malawi, scheduled for October 11 and 15 as part of the qualifications for CAN 2025, it was announced that “the contract of the national coach, Aliou Cissé, will not be renewed by the Senegalese Federation (FSF). “It’s a decision taken by the new authorities.”

This is what Sud Quotidien reveals in its Wednesday edition. The newspaper specifies that the Minister of Sports sent a confidential letter to the Federation, opposing the one-year extension of the contract of the “Lions” coach.

The FSF is expected to officially communicate this state decision this Wednesday, following the emergency committee meeting held the day before. According to Sud, the Minister of Sports would have made this decision in response to whistles from the public at the Abdoulaye Wade stadium after the draw (1-1) of the “Lions” against Burkina Faso. The away victory against Burundi (0-1) in Lilongwe in Malawi did not change the position of the State, reports the newspaper

The question that now arises is who will lead the “Lions” for the rest of the qualifications, particularly during the two matches against Malawi. “Will the deputy, Pape Bouna Thiaw, take over in the interim? If yes, for how long? », asks Sud daily.

Aliou Cissé has led the Senegal team since 2015 and has given Senegalese football one of its finest records as a coach: winner of CAN 2021, finalist of CAN 2019, as well as two participations in the World Cup ( 2018 and 2022).
