At the meadow of the 2024 farm: discover the Lozérien terroir – visit #3 to the Tardieu farm

As part of its competence to support agricultural diversification and quality sectors, the Department of Lozère is associated with initiatives such as “Au pré de la ferme”, organized by Agrilocal. This year, the association opened the doors to Lozère authenticity with three exclusive visits in March and April 2024.

Visit n°3: the Tardieu farm

This Monday, April 29, for the third and final visit, around ten professionals from collective catering and short circuits (Clos du Nid association, Sacré Cœur college, Chaptal high school, etc.) were welcomed by Philippe and Florence Tardieu, farmers of the joint farming group (Gaec) Tardieu, located in Estables.

The Tardieu farm is the result of a family project initiated by Philippe Tardieu in 1996. Formerly an individual farmer in beef cattle production, Philippe chose to convert first to organic farming in 2015, then to goat farming. in 2016. These decisions respond in particular to the growing demand for organic goat’s milk from the Lémance cheese factory located in Lot-et-Garonne.

The operation then transformed into Gaec with the association of Florence Tardieu in 2018, who trained at the cheese school. Since 2019, the Gaec has included three workshops: beef cattle breeding (more than 80 cows), goat milk breeding (nearly 250 goats) and on-farm processing of part of goat’s milk (more than 10 000 liters). He also employs 2 people, including one part-time, in order to organize the work and gradually take more free time.

The milk is mainly sold at the Lémance cheese factory, but the processed products (yogurts, cheeses, etc.) are sold on site and in local markets such as that of Mende. Florence Tardieu also occasionally participates in events in Lozère when requested. Recently, they registered on the Agrilocal platform, in order to offer their products to professionals in collective catering and short circuits.

A big thank you to Philippe and Florence who showed off their facilities, indicated their milk processing techniques and tasted their products.

Strong support from the Department of Lozère

The elected representatives of the Lozère Departmental Council firmly support farmers, as well as the development of short circuits and local products. This is demonstrated by the partnership with Agrilocal since 2016 and the participation in the “Au pré de la ferme” operation. This allows catering professionals to discover the richness and diversity of our agriculture and to form lasting partnerships with Lozère producers.

“In short circuits, our Lozère producers provide organic goat products for a healthy and virtuous diet. A plus for collective restaurants in our area,” declared Robert Aigoin, vice-president of the Lozère Departmental Council.

Another illustration of the commitment of elected officials: the transition of the Territorial Food Project (PAT) from “emerging” to “in action” over the period 2024-2029, voted during the Departmental Council last April. Concretely, this transition results in the implementation of the 22 actions voted on last year and the continued mobilization of financing.

A figure higher than the regulatory objective of the Egalim law, which sets the share of organic products in the supply of collective restaurants at 20%.
