As reported Blue Touraine the sign in question was displayed on the quays of the Loire by medical students, during an integration evening which took place in mid-September 2024. We can see a naked and visibly unconscious woman, in an enormous glass cocktail, and under which is written an explicit mention of GHB, a substance more commonly known as a “rapist drug”.

Published on social networks, several photographs from the integration evening led the university management to react. In a press release, she assures “condemn with the greatest firmness the banner displayed by medical students” and want “take the necessary actions to punish those responsible”. Furthermore, she also sent a report to the public prosecutor, in accordance with article 40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

“Silence is complicit” denounces a collective of associations

As pointed out The New Republic a collective of student, political and feminist associations also published a press release to denounce this behavior, “symptomatic of the culture of hypersexualization and rape”. “In these times, it is all the more shameful to proudly display oneself with a banner advocating and calling for rape by chemical submission. This is not the first time that the University of Tours has found itself at the center of a controversy of this type. Last March, a medical school student was convicted of sexually assaulting two former classmates.
