Strasbourg will host an international blind football tournament

From May 25 to June 1, the third edition of the IBSA Blind Football World Grand Prix will be held, an international blind football tournament, that is to say football for visually impaired people. The eight best nations in this sport will compete in this event. Alongside France, Brazil, Turkey, Argentina, Japan, Colombia, Thailand and China will compete. The athletes will gather at the Aar stadium, in Schiltigheim, near Strasbourg.

This event sounds like a dress rehearsal before the Paralympic Games in Paris. The World Grand Prix will also welcome three women’s blind football teams: the French, German and Austrian selection. The teams will compete in friendly matches, with, as always, the objective of promoting female participation in this sport and football in general.

This beautiful sports festival which also promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities. Concretely, blind football pits two teams of five players against each other during two periods of 15 minutes each with a stopped clock. The 20 m by 40 m pitch is lined with side barriers and the goals are the size of field hockey cages. The ball used has sound so it can follow its trajectory. The four outfield players are visually impaired, only the goalkeeper is sighted.
