The Hijabeuses invited by the town hall of Grenoble: “We make the fight visible”

In May, a conference will be held in Grenoble.

Entitled “Red Card to Racism”, it will be held on May 28 at the museum auditorium by former footballer Vikash Dhorasoo and the Les Hijabeuses collective. The latter, born within the Alliance Citoyenne association, fights for the right of female footballers to wear the veil during official matches in France.

And two years after the burkini controversy, the City of Grenoble is therefore risking new tensions by inviting Hijabeuses.

The deputy mayor in charge of Equal Rights Laura Pfister does not shy away and recognizes that this invitation is not insignificant: “We are making the fight visible, that’s for sure. I don’t know if it’s divisive or what people will think about it. The idea is to discuss it. And we’re not afraid to go on this type of subject. Why should we be afraid? We raise the subject by saying that it is not a question of secularism”she declared during a press conference this Thursday.

Her colleague, Deputy for Sports, Céline Mennetrier took up the arguments of the Hijabeuses, declaring that the ban on playing with a veil in France was “a limitation to physical and sporting practice” for many women.
