The Department of Yvelines is committed to preventing the loss of autonomy of seniors by offering financial aid, support services and adopting innovative approaches to promote their well-being and autonomy. Age-friendly city, an approach in favor of seniors
Since 2020, the Department of Yvelines has chosen to adhere to the VADA approach. An approach promoted by the World Health Organization which relies on the expertise of seniors to adapt territories to the challenges of aging.
Available, experienced, eager to continue to play a role in society, seniors are a resource for the region.
In 2022, in conjunction with the National Old Age Insurance Fund (CNAV) and the Francophone Network of Age-Friendly Cities, the Yvelines Department tested the approach with six Yvelines towns : Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Poissy, Mantes-la-Jolie, Maule, Auffargis and Condé-sur-Vesgre. You should know that today, no less than 322,000 Yvelin residents are over 60 years old. And by 2050, there will be 450,000.
Living well in Yvelines
The objective? Develop a global policy for all seniors, defined with them, allowing them to maintain good health for as long as possible and to continue to live well in Yvelines.
After an inventory phase, making it possible to identify existing services, missing or in need of expansion, workshops with residents make it possible to identify proposals for action. Several themes are carefully examined to define the action plan for each municipality.
In 2021, the Department supported an artistic projectwhere intergenerational meetings between students and seniors were organized to break down age-related prejudices. Photos from these meetings constitute a traveling photographic exhibition, entitled Mix’Ages.
Thus, thanks to his commitment, the Department of Yvelines obtained, on November 30, 2022, the silver level of the label “Friend of the elderly”handed over to the Ministry of Solidarity by the Réseau Francophone Ville Amie des Aînés. Enough to make several Yvelines municipalities want to get involved in the VADA approach… And it’s done!

Discuss to raise awareness
Each year, the Department raises awareness among municipalities, but also among their citizens, to engage in this VADA approach. The area offers exchanges and experiences during a city club. Solids: Auffargis, Épône, Houilles, Jouy-en-Josas, Le Pecq, Le Vésinet, Les Mureaux, Mantes-la-Ville, Maule, Noisy-le-Roi, Poissy, Rambouillet, Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Sartrouville , Trappes, Versailles, Villepreux and Voisins-le-Bretonneux.
Last September 10, the 5th VADA cities club took place in the town of Jouy-en-Josas. Marie-Hélène Aubert, mayor and vice-president of the Department, delegate for Autonomy, Health and International Cooperation, as well as Emmanuel Souriau, director of Autonomy, were on site.
In addition to the cities already members of the network, representatives of the municipalities of Orgeval, Loges-en-Josas, Villepreux and Montigny-le-Bretonneux also joined this event, so that their seniors can age in the best possible conditions. possible conditions.
Voisins-le-Bretonneux, a committed municipality
You will have understood it, this club helps seniors live well in our Department by raising awareness in communities about the demographic transition and by deploying a global old age policy. Around thirty Yvelin actors then met to share their knowledge and bring the approach to life “Senior-friendly city”.
The perfect opportunity to discover the commitment, since 2022, of the commune of Voisins-le-Bretonneux, which regularly adapts to the aging of its population, in particular with café meetings. And which could inspire more than one…
