The first Formula 1 exhibition in North America opens its doors on Friday in Toronto.

On the menu, six exhibition rooms, four Formula 1 cars, 96 driver helmets, racing simulators and interactive games.

Mélanie Villeneuve, the daughter of Gilles Villeneuve and the sister of Jacques, visited the exhibition in preview on Thursday in the Queen City. She speaks about it on the microphone of Mario Langlois, at Amateurs de sports.

“It gives a view of the history, the rich history of automobile racing. And they did a job, a superb job, of putting it forward,” she said.

“It’s an immersive experience. There are lots of videos and there are vintage cars. We can see the Lotus Camel that Senna drove in 1985. We can also see Jim Clark’s Lotus 25. We can see the nose of one of Lewis Hamilton’s cars. We can see a wall full of helmets. These are real racing helmets worn from the 60s until recently. There are hours of videos that have been filmed where you can put headphones on your ears and then hear videos, then testimonials from drivers, testimonies from the world of F1.

“There is a super nice video that was made on Enzo (Ferrari) who talks about Gilles. And then, indeed, there is a display on Gilles and then there are helmets of Jacques and Gilles. There are simulators, too, to entertain some. I think it’s up to date as an exhibition, it’s immersive as they say today. It’s super interesting.”

We listen to Mélanie Villeneuve…
