LE SCAN SPORT – Drunk, the main referee of a provincial division match in Belgium fled at half-time before the police arrived.
Who would have believed it. In Belgium, a simple provincial division match in P1 Hainaut between Saint Symphorien and Courcelles was disrupted by a very unusual event.
First incident to set the scene, lesser compared to the rest… A sideline referee was absent, convinced that the match took place the next day… To replace him, a player from Courcelles devoted himself, a classic in football amateur, but what happens next will be much more disturbing.
At half-time, the Symphorinois lead 2-0, but something disturbs the 22 players. The players and coaches notice that the main referee of the match is not in normal condition. Nice observation since upon returning from the locker room, Courcelles’ team notices that the latter is drunk and refuses to resume the match.
Faced with an impasse, the local team called the police to officially establish the state of intoxication. Feeling the tide turn, the referee fled at the wheel of his car just before the arrival of the police. The match never resumed.
