Departmental road 173, connecting Rennes to Angerswill be closed to traffic for four weeks, from May 14 to June 7, 2024. Work is planned there between May 14 and June 21.

According to the Ille-et-Vilaine department, diversions will be put in place in Loire-Atlantique and Maine-et-Loire.

Too many heavy goods vehicles

“The presence of water in the body of the roadways, near the Araize forest, has revealed damage which requires strengthening of drainage and rehabilitation of the road. Moreover, the number of heavy goods vehicles circulating is twice as high as was estimated”explains the Ille-et-Vilaine departmental council.

Despite work previously carried out, the section of the road is weakened by the influx of truck traffic. In view of the traffic, the work requires “the application of greater thicknesses of road coating”.

The work schedule

The work will take place in two phases:

  • From May 14 to June 7, 2024, the road will be completely closed to treat the connection area between Ille-et-Vilaine and Maine-et-Loire. This part of the work will require a significant diversion of road traffic for four weeks.
  • From June 10 to June 21, 2024traffic will be restored in 2×1 lanes in the direction Angers ― Rennes.

Deviations

Motorists will have to follow several diversions, with routes in Loire-Atlantique and Maine-et-Loire.

During the first phase of work, vehicles will be redirected towards the RD 178 in the communes of Martigné-Ferchaud, Noyal sur Brutz, Châteaubriantthen by the RD 771 in the communes of Soudan, Villepot and Ombrée d’Anjou.
