“An abject speech”: an MR-Engagés candidate in Schaerbeek arouses the anger of Internet users

Xavier Mezquita, MR-Engagés candidate in Schaerbeek, aroused the indignation of Internet users and certain associations this Monday after comments under a Facebook event for people with disabilities, reports RTL info.

The event in question is a wheelchair parade organized on October 4 in Schaerbeek.

Xavier Mezquita posted this comment: “After tomorrow, we will do a walk for the visually impaired, then a walk for the visually impaired, and then a walk for left-handed people and a swimming marathon for asthmatics. When it comes to spending money, this Ecolo-Green-Défi majority does not lack imagination. When will the competition for the most beautiful rat take place? »

The latter then apologized a few hours later: “My comments were clumsy and I apologize for that. I am for an inclusive community for everyone, whatever their origin, beliefs or differences. »

A despicable speech

“It’s absolute class at the MR – Reform Movement. It might be time to shut up and keep a low profile,” reacts one internet user. “Your apologies are inaudible after such a scandalous and abject speech. »

The Riga Solidarity and Inclusive non-profit association also singled out the liberal candidate in a publication on its Facebook page, tagging the MR.

The Ecolo-Groen municipal list called for a “firm condemnation” and asked the MR-Engagés list to remove the candidate.

François Colinet (Ecolo) challenged Xavier Mezquita on his social networks and filed a report with Unia.

Audrey Henry, head of the MR-Engagés list in Schaerbeek, told our colleagues at Sudinfo that the rest of the candidates did not share Xavier Mezquita’s position.
