OpenAI will double the price of ChatGPT+: its plans have leaked

Internal OpenAI documents have been leaked, revealing the company’s plans to gradually increase the price of ChatGPT+ subscription over the next five years. Currently we can subscribe to ChatGPT Plus for 20 dollars per monthwhich provides access to advanced models, reduced limitations, and the use of tools like DALL-E, OpenAI’s image generator.

Up to $44 per month, from what we know

However, according to documents obtained by The New York Times, ChatGPT+ will increase to $22 per month before the end of the year. Beyond that, it is expected that the cost of the subscription will continue. to increase to $44 per month by 2029.

In addition to these price changes, OpenAI is looking to raise up to $7 billion, which would bring the company’s valuation to $150 billion, well above the $30 billion just a year ago , when Microsoft began investing in the company.

Although the company generates monthly revenue of $300 million, OpenAI continues to face significant expenses, which will result in a loss of $5 billion this year. In terms of income, ChatGPT Plus represents a significant part of OpenAI’s businesscontributing 2.7 billion out of the 3.7 billion planned for this year.

If OpenAI has taken steps to facilitate access to its most basic modelsfor example by allowing use without the need to create an account, the company has also increased what can be obtained by signing up for a subscription. A subscription which now includes access to the o1 model, for example, and which, for many, represents a completely justified investment. We will see, as prices increase, how the landscape evolves.
