The Cinco de Mayo Music Fest will be held at the Route 5 Event Center, located at 296 Lake Shore , Dunkirk, with all proceeds to benefit Chautauqua County Rural Ministry. Six acts are lined up to perform throughout the day, highlighted by Furious George, set to take the stage from 5 until 7 pm Sunday. Also performing is Derek Davis, Footsteps, Swamp Yankees, Two Towns, and Pedro and the Smooth Cats.

Tickets are $15 presale and $20 at the door. Food and drink will be included in the festivities. Tickets can be purchased at the Rural Ministry at 319 Washington Ave., Dunkirk, or by calling (716) 785-7820.

The Chautauqua County Rural Ministry has recently lost a substantial amount of grant funding. In addition, former Executive Director Kathleen Peterson passed away in October. First losing its leader, then its funding, the Rural Ministry has been doing all it can to stay afloat in recent months, which motivated new Executive Director Bridget Majka, President of the Board of Directors Allan Steinberg, and several Board members and staff to look for new ways to fundraise.

Lorie Mets, board member and organizer of the event, “wanted to do something on a large scale” to help raise money for the Rural Ministry to continue to support the community. Funds raised from Sunday’s event will go to support the Friendly Kitchen and the Food Pantry, along with other operational needs.

St. George Enterprises. Many local entities also provided gifts to raffle, as well. Approximately 60 local businesses have sponsored or donated to the event in some way.

“I’m excited about what a great community we have. People step up without question,” Mets said. “People are just so willing to help, to step up. … It’s so nice to see the community wanting to help each other.”

To donate to the Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, monetary donations or donations to the food pantry are welcomed at 319 Washington Ave., Dunkirk.
