Restos du coeur: the Echirolles center is desperately seeking volunteers despite the tense context

The Restaurants in the heart of Isère are launching a call for help: they are running out of workers as winter arrives. Particularly in Echirolles, where the tension of recent months is scaring potential volunteers.

It’s a cry from the heart: in Echirolles, the Restos du coeur are urgently looking for volunteers. Because local news marked by shootings and drug trafficking weighs on the operation of Restos du coeur. “The situation is dramatic in Echirolles: the center is saturated with 650 families including around a hundred babies, except that we lack volunteers“, deplores Jean-Paul Cézard, the president of Restos du coeur de l’Isère. “We are missing around ten volunteers to renew our teams, in Echirolles alone“. Every week 1,900 people are served in this center, including nearly a hundred children under the age of one.

However, the center of Echirolles is well integrated into the district, “it provides a warm and comforting atmosphere, the inhabitants and local residents are grateful for the work carried out“, underlines Jean-Paul Cézard.

Winter promises to be difficult, “the figures are climbing dangerously”

After having to refuse “more than 110,000 last winter”, Restos du coeur are going “refuse a little less” beneficiaries this winter, Restos spokesperson Yves Mérillon indicated on Friday. “But we won’t be able to accommodate everyone, still not.”

In Isère, we stand out from the national trend. We are facing a sharp increase in requests in the metropolis, so we will accept everyone but not always under good conditions, it promises to be difficult because the numbers are climbing dangerously“, worries Jean-Paul Cézard.
