Challenged leadership: “I feel better today,” says Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois

Shaken by the departure of the female co-spokesperson and the criticism aimed at her leadership, the parliamentary leader of Québec solidaire Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois returned to the National Assembly after a break to take a step back. Alongside Manon Massé, he declared that he felt better.

QS’s male co-spokesperson spoke briefly to reporters in the parliamentary gallery on Wednesday morning. “I feel a lot better today,” he said before disappearing to his MP caucus.

He was accompanied by Manon Massé who returned to the National Assembly after undergoing a third heart operation last March. Ms. Massé was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia last year.

On Tuesday, Mr. Nadeau-Dubois needed to take a moment to digest the departure of Émilise Lessard-Therrien.

The parliamentary leader will finally answer all questions at 3:30 p.m. today.

During his absence, MP Vincent Marissal admitted that Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois must change the way he manages the training, while other supportive elected officials defended the “strong leadership” of the parliamentary leader.

Reviews

In her message to explain her resignation, Émilise Lessard-Therrien indicates that she tried “to influence the framework of reflection and decision-making led or nourished by a small team of professionals woven tightly around the male spokesperson.”

The GND’s control over the political party is also the subject of criticism, as is the place of women within the party.

On Monday, Mr. Nadeau-Dubois declared that he took his share of responsibility for the sudden departure of his colleague.

QS parliamentary leader Alexandre Leduc reiterated that GND has “completely” the confidence of the caucus, adding that its leader has an “open leadership style, a consultation leadership style.”
