In Agadir, the murderer of a young man, whose body was charred, has just been sentenced on appeal to 30 years of criminal imprisonment. According to the daily Al Akhbar, which reports the information in its delivery of Monday September 30, the Criminal Appeal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of Agadir has just rendered its judgment in this case.

This son of a parliamentarian is being prosecuted for intentional homicide and mutilation of the victim’s corpse. The Court confirmed the judgment at first instance with regard to the charges, since the accused was prosecuted under articles 392 and 271 of the penal code, that is to say for murder with intent to give death and mutilation of a corpse.

However, the Court revised the judgment downwards, since the accused had been sentenced, in October last year, to life in prison at first instance. Concerning the civil party, the Court maintained the amount of compensation set by the first instance judgment at the same level.

The case dates back to November 2022, recalls the daily. The Agadir judicial police services opened a judicial investigation after the discovery of a charred body in a wasteland near the city. A DNA analysis carried out on the remains made it possible to identify the victim, a young man living in the town and whose family had reported his disappearance.

A little later, investigators also identified a first suspect, the son of a parliamentarian, who was in business with the victim. The murdered young man was engaged, during his lifetime, in electronic commerce and earned a good living. And, according to his family, the parliamentarian’s son, the main suspect, owed him 3 million dirhams. Moreover, this is the last person with whom the victim was in contact before his disappearance. In his last call to a friend, the young man confirmed that he was in his car with the parliamentarian’s son, the daily continues.

It is these details revealed by the victim’s family which allowed investigators to identify the main accused and subsequently apprehend him, on the basis of precise information provided by the DGST services. Once arrested, the accused was brought before the king’s prosecutor, then before the investigating judge.

According to the investigation, the suspect lured the victim to a vacant lot, where he attacked her then strangled her using a cable. He then transported the body in the trunk of his car to another location on the outskirts of the city, then set it on fire using an inflammable substance.

After his arrest, his defense produced a medical certificate attesting that he suffered from schizophrenia and requested his internment in a psychiatric hospital. Following which, the investigating judge ordered a medical assessment which he entrusted to three specialist doctors. The expert report revealed that the defendant was in perfect mental health.
